Amazing. Acer Iconia A501 Tab drop to the crazy prices

After IPad 2 had significant price drop. Almost all people wish the same thing happen on Google Android Tablet Pc. And apparently, the prayer began to come true. Although not very great, ranging in price $ 679 (check here). But one interesting offer comes from the Acer Iconia Tab A501 (16GB), which gives special price of $ 479.
Acer Iconia Tab A501

It’s one of the heavier 10.1in tablets going at 777 grams, but ultimately that’s still light enough to ensure high portability. The metal backing feels pleasant to the touch, and the 10.1in (1,280 x 800 resolution) glossy screen has generous viewing angles along with good colour depth. In addition to the 3G SIM card slot there’s a MicroSD card reader, a USB 2.0 port and a Micro-HDMI port. The card reader in particular is sure to be a useful supplement to the A501’s small 16GB flash drive.

Wrapping up the essential features are 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, front and rear cameras along with an integrated microphone. It may not compare favourably to new tablets like the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, but the significant price difference and well-rounded features still make the A501 worth considering.

Right now the A501 runs Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb, but according to Acer Australia & New Zealand on Facebook there’s an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich scheduled for July 9th. Also, while we’re not sure when this special expires we’ll update this story accordingly. According apomag, com. the price is only valid until May 13th, 2012

Lilypad HD App: new apps for loating chat in the Android Tablet

There is a new app out in the market for all Android tablet users, the LilyPad HD. It is actually the very first floating instant messaging app for Android tablets. Basically, the app helps you stay notified about your all your IM activities- even when you’re browsing the web, watching a video on YouTube, playing a game or even watching a movie- because the chat window will continue to be visible no matter what app is open.

Before you get excited about this app, here’s the wet blanket- the app comes with some strange problems. The first, although not a total deal-breaker, is that the app currently supports only Google Talk. However, other IM clients are to be added soon.

The second is that the app is still in beta mode. But what’s most surprising is that the app, despite being in beta mode, is in fact not free! Yes, you actually have to shell out $1.50 just to use the beta app. It is pretty weird to ask users to pay up for a product that is still in beta mode. Beta mode is actually a half-baked product that still needs some issues to be ironed out.

Although it does bring in some pretty awesome functionality to the Android tablets, it is probably advisable to put away your money until the app comes out of beta mode. Rest assured, LilyPad HD is well worth the money!

Sony Releases Android ICS Update For Tablet S

Sony has finally released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for its Sony Tablet S, marking the first update from Sony with Google’s latest mobile operating system version ahead of a scheduled rollout for Xperia smartphones.

“The next time you connect to Wi-Fi, your Sony Tablet S should prompt you to do a system update, just click OK to download, and in a few minutes you should be ready to go on Android 4.0,” a representative for the Japanese electronics giant wrote in a blog post.

Sony features the same ICS goodness found on other devices, such as a panoramic camera view, enhanced lock screen, redesigned home screen icons, an improved Android web browser, Face Unlock and access to Google’s beta Chrome web browser.

The company has yet to reveal the availability date for an Android ICS update for the dual-screen Sony Tablet P, which has ignited fears that it may not come to the slate at all. Sony is set to release ICS updates for its smartphones, which include the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray, in four to six weeks.

How To Form Customized Dashboards Using Android Tablet Widgets

Broadly speaking, there are three ways for users of google android tablet to could get a widget. The first one, you could get the widget when you install a particular application, this way you can get at most of the apps available. But sometimes some apps require you to install a secondary widget separately as a complementary. And this is a second way to get widgets from the android tablet. Evernote app is an example of a good case. Although you get an in-built widgets when you install the app, there is also an improved, free Evernote Widget That Gives you even more configuration options. The latter, is that you could get an independent widget without needing an app works. In general, this widget has only one function such as a clock or the battery level indicator.
honeycomb widget evernote widget customize

Oh ya, besides there are some widgets that can be resized, In order the make the resizing tool to show up, just tap and hold the title bar at the top of the widget.

Setting up widgets

Setting up widgets comes with some problems. Biggest problem is screen space- you can have only so many widgets in a single screen. Blame Google’s designs for this-

Relatively large borders on each home screen where you cannot place widgets

Padding within the widget

These lead to a large section of each home screen to go to waste. But since it is Google’s design, there is almost nothing you can do about it.

Another thing to be kept in mind is service hogs. You may happen to notice very slow or even failed widget information refreshes on a 3G connection.

Widgets have a common tendency of draining out your battery for all its juice. The biggest culprits are usually the weather widgets since they activate and utilize the GPS location services to provide you with local conditions. If you notice far too much drain on your battery or bandwidth, look into your widgets- you might find the culprit there.

Finally, far too many widgets can render the OS unstable. Roughly, every widget that you add to a home screen tends to hog system resources and makes apps, widgets, and other Android components like the window manager to crash.

However, take your time to experiment and play around with the widgets available on your Android tablet. Although they come with some issues, they are incredibly convenient and also increase your overall productivity. But do not depend too much on them. Strike a balance between your needs and available resources and it’s a win-win situation!
